Parent Consultation. Assistance is available for specific issues or concerns regarding your child. Consults provide an opportunity to problem solve, discuss school or community issues, establish short- and long-term goals, collaborate on IEP goals, explore inclusion opportunities, develop supports for extracurricular activities, discuss summer camp options or any other issues (toileting, self-help, bedtime routines, sibling interactions, etc.)
Parenting is a tough job. Better Behavior is here to help.
Family Education and Training. We teach fundamental ABA principles and skills to empower families and maximize your child’s success. Parents, siblings, and other significant individuals are important change agents who can facilitate treatment gains in natural settings. This increases opportunities to practice mastered skills and supports enduring change. Family members learn prevention strategies and gain confidence in managing behavioral issues as they arise.
Sheltering@Home Support. With families spending inordinate time at home, behavioral support strategies are greatly needed and highly recommended. Better Behavior collaborates with parents to develop a customized, proactive support plan to set your child up for success and enhance life at home.

Learning new skills while maintaining those already mastered is crucial to prevent regression and ensure progress—especially with school closures causing significant reductions in instructional time. Programming can include your child’s current IEP goals and other high priority skills that can improve life while sheltering at home (e.g., independent play, leisure skills, preparing a snack, completing chores). Core areas often include communication, social awareness and interactions, play, imitation, and concepts (same/different, opposites, prepositions). Skill building programs are tailored to your child’s needs.
Better Behavior offers two safe options for ABA instructional programs. Parents can provide direct ABA therapy while receiving remote training and supervision from Dr. Milstein or Dr. Milstein will deliver direct therapy remotely.
ABA instructional methods include discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment training (NET), positive reinforcement, shaping, errorless learning and prompting.
Better Behavior also provides consultation services to school districts to assist with ABA instructional programs.

Challenging Behaviors
Unpredictability, change, and low structure are common triggers for challenging behaviors, and abundant in these highly uncertain times. With families spending most of their time at home where the needs of working parents and children clash, problem behaviors are likely to occur especially among children with severe communication deficits.
Better Behavior conducts Functional Behavior Assessments to better understand your child’s challenging behaviors and develop a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) specific to their needs. BIPs emphasize prevention and teach alternatives to the challenging behavior.
Dr. Milstein also trains relevant individuals (parents, teachers, caregivers) in implementing the BIP.

Better Behavior provides assistance with educational needs and other school matters. Dr. Milstein conducts school observations to better understand concerns.
If your child displays challenging behaviors at school, a Functional Behavior Assessment is conducted and findings are the foundation for developing a Behavior Intervention Plan. Dr. Milstein trains school staff in implementing the plan. Independent Education Evaluations (IEEs) are also available to assess the fit between a student's educational program and needs.
Dr. Milstein also provides consultation services to school districts.
Since a child’s development is not limited to home or school, Dr. Milstein supports inclusion in recreation programs, camps, and community activities. She consults with parents and program staff to establish proactive strategies that maximize a child’s success.
